Introducing Tantojutsu (art of the knife)
What are the benefits of learning the sword (katana) at Asheboro Kenjutsu?
The Way of the Sword builds:
Strength - more muscle, less fat
Balance - peaceful mind
Discipline - productive mind
Focus - attain your goals
Self-Confidence - live without fear
From the gung-ho to the beginner, there is something here at Asheboro Kenjutsu for all skill levels, men or women, boys or girls. The Video Replay Option will show you (and the world, if you want to brag) your new skills. Bokken and Katana Curriculum Manual are included in tuition. Private classes with an instructor with a well-rounded education on the Katana from several disciplines including: Kenjutsu, Nito (two sword), Kendo, Iaido (drawing the sword) and the Go Rin No Sho (Book of Five Rings) and Tameshigiri (cutting tests).
Safety Policy
- Students are not allowed to draw or re-sheath shinken (sharp sword) until Lesson 10, roughly 6 months. Iaito, (unsharpened sword) are to be used until then.
- Each cut performed will be practiced many times before execution, so that potential safety hazards may be identified in advance of the cut. Video Replays are also very helpful with identifying safety hazards.
- Students will not spar at all until approved by the instructor as skilled enough to do so without injuring their opponent. Sparring is never done with shinken or bokken, but with foam-covered practice swords. (Musashi used to kill with bokken)
- Horseplay or "pretend fighting" are not allowed in our school. Weapons are serious business and should be treated as such.
